A couple weeks ago I ventured down to Mexico City to visit Matt so that we can do a good practice climb to get ready for Kilimanjaro. Here are some pics from that trip.
This was a very successful trip as we were looking to test a lot of the equipment that we are going to use on the mountain, including testing out our fitness levels. Both were great. We climbed to over 15,000 feet on the outskirts of the city (after getting detained by the Mexican Police for about 2 hours) and camped at 15,500 overnight. Although it was cold, and we were tired from the earlier events of the day, we made it and are very confident as we sit at 51 days until Kili.
With everyday that passes, we inch closer to showtime and I think everyone is getting excited. Our visas are in transit, our clothes and equipment is arriving and final details and schedules are being worked out. We are also all getting our final programs for our fitness as we are so close. It is really amazing to see something become so real after working on it for over a year now. 51 days is about to feel like 51 hours, and the minutes, and then…it’s here.

We are headed to Africa to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with two challenged athletes. Our goal is to raise awareness for individuals with physical challenges so they can participate and compete in the sports they love with portions of the proceeds to benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation. By providing opportunities and resources needed for active lifestyles, CAF enhances these individuals’ self-esteem, independence and quality of life.In January of 2010, we start our journey from Los Angeles International Airport and head towards Tanzania, and we would like to invite all of you to follow along!
